Company History
Elizabeth Machines Co was founded by Max Skurrie back in 1960. Our name
originates from our first location in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne
contrary to many customers thoughts that it was a family member’s name.
Beginning in domestic sewing machine sales, the business grew swiftly
and not before long, Max was dealing in used industrial sewing
machines. With intention to develop further into the industrial sewing
machine supply to support the growing garment manufacturing trade in
Melbourne, Max traveled to Japan and secured the Yamato Sewing Machine
agency for Australia. The following years would see the company grow
significantly and larger premises were required as well as additional
staff and hundreds of Yamato machines made their way to Australia.
More
visits to international trade shows would see the company also become
agents for other leading brands like Mitsubishi and the heavy
industrial Seiko products. Max also took on a new player in the
industrial sewing world, Kaulin Manufacturing producing the Siruba
range. We’re proud of the relationships we have forged with these
companies and we continue to supply those brands today.
Once
Melbourne was established Sydney soon followed with a wide network of
wholesale dealers in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth we were able to
ensure the brands which we represented were promoted across all areas
of Australia.
In 1999 we again expanded our business with the
acquisition on the Lightning Cutting Machine business. Again an
industry icon brand and a reputation of the highest quality products
ensured new business, new customers and a wider range of services was
able to be offered by Elizabeth Machines.
We remain very much a close knit family operated business with many
staff having been with us for over 15 years. Our commitment to the
future development of our business to increase current market share as
well as find new products and industries is un-waived. We’re confident
we can prosper as we have a terrific team of employees to support us.
