While there are many buttonhole attachments available on the market for those looking to sew the perfect buttonholes, there is no sewing foot that can compare with a purpose-made automatic buttonhole machine. As one of Australia’s most renowned and respected textile machinery suppliers, Elizabeth Machines Co. is the place you can trust if you’re looking for a buttonhole machine.
Why automatic buttonhole machines are a great choice
Whether you have sewn buttonholes by hand or with a presser foot in the past, you will be aware of the time and dedication involved in doing it correctly. While it is fairly easy to sew buttonholes by hand or with the help of a buttonhole or regular foot, these methods are by no means efficient when you have hundreds of buttonholes to sew. These methods also require a lot of focus and attention to avoid making a mistake that can be hard to undo. Luckily, keyhole buttonhole machines make sewing buttonholes a breeze. Depending on the automatic buttonhole machine you buy, you will be able to effortlessly sew many more buttonholes every day, in a quiet, efficient and consistent manner.
How to use an automatic buttonhole machine
While each buttonhole machine is different, the overall process of creating a buttonhole is generally the same. To use a keyhole buttonhole machine or a similar machine, follow the following 4 steps:
- Choose Your Buttonhole Settings – Before you begin sewing your buttonholes, be sure that your machine is set to the correct settings. Certain buttonholes machines allow you to choose the buttonhole stitch pattern and the size of the hole.
- Insert Your Fabric – Once you’ve selected the correct settings, insert your fabric into the machine, placing the area where you want the buttonhole to be made underneath the presser. Press the foot pedal or switch to start sewing.
- Move The Fabric As You Go – Once a buttonhole is complete, move the fabric to the location of the following buttonhole. Then press the foot pedal, switch or wait for the automatic buttonhole machine to begin stitching the next hole.
- Open The Buttonholes – When all the buttonholes have been completed, remove the fabric from the machine, trim excess thread and, if necessary, cut open the fabric in the middle of the sewn buttonholes.
